Recientemente, a través de monitoreos de fauna que se realizan en el proyecto de la calle 12 sur, se encontró por primera vez, en Medellín, el Carpinterito colombiano. Los expertos identificaron un macho y una hembra de un tamaño promedio de 9 cm y un peso de 12 gr. Esta información podría suponer que esta población endémica ha encontrado en la zona las condiciones necesarias para establecerse en el corredor.
El Carpinterito colombiano macho se diferencia de la hembra por sus pintas de color amarillo en la coronilla, además de su tamaño; a su vez, los jóvenes son más opacos y oscuros que los adultos.
El biólogo de la interventoría de la obra, Jose Navarro, indica la importancia de estas especies endémicas (que no se encuentra en ninguna otra parte del mundo) en espacios urbanos. “Nuestro país posee la avifauna más variada del mundo, es un deber como ciudadanos identificarlas para poder respetarlas y protegerlas, denunciando su tráfico y evitando su maltrato. Debemos conocer su función en el hábitat y cuidarlos para que no desaparezcan”

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
